Challenges

This month's featured challenge:

Reusable Shopping Bags

This is a great challenge for those just beginning their Honing the Household journey! Especially easier now that some starts are charging for plastic or paper bags at the grocery store! Save money and help the environment.

Objective: Eliminate single-use plastic bags.

What you need: A few tote bags - that's it! Before you go buy bags, we first suggest going through your closet. Maybe you have some canvas book bags rolled up in the back you never use that will work for groceries. Think about what you typically buy when you go to the store and what size you might need. Also, not everything has to go into a bag! Sure, it is easiest, but more bulky items can also just be tossed in a basket in the back of your car when you unload your car.

If you don't have anything on hand or are looking to replace some old bags, here are some of our favorite things:

  • Collapsible basket - this is great to leave in your trunk for organization and to hold things you purchase or transporting wet items home from a camping trip! This also keeps your groceries and bags from rolling around the trunk.

  • Large waterproof tote - this is also multipurpose - it is a great for the beach, camping, and groceries! Easily wipes clean.

  • Reusable bags - these were our first reusable bags ever many years ago. We love that these are waterproof, fold up small enough to throw into your pocket or purse, AND they are machine washable! We keep these in the car's glove compartment for quick access! We never leave home without one. There are so many color options and these make a great gift!
